Author Response: Human Accommodative Ciliary Muscle Configuration Changes Are Consistent With Schachar's Mechanism of Accommodation.

چکیده
We appreciate the comments Schachar made on human accommodative ciliary muscle configuration. We agree with the author that the ciliary muscle image in our Figure 2B1 appears to show notching of the anterior radial muscle fibers in the accommodative eye. This observation may be interpreted as the movement of the anterior radial muscle fibers. We thank the author for bringing up this important interpretation.

Accommodation and presbyopia.
Accommodation is a dioptric change in power of the eye that occurs to allow near objects to be focused on the retina. The ability to accommodate is lost with increasing age in humans and monkeys. This phenomenon, called presbyopia, is the most common human ocular affliction, and its pathophysiology remains uncertain. The progressive loss of human accommodative amplitude begins early in life and...
متن کاملCiliary muscle morphologic changes with accommodation and axial ametropia.
PURPOSE To use anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) to analyze ciliary muscle morphology and changes with accommodation and axial ametropia. METHODS Fifty prepresbyopic volunteers, aged 19 to 34 years were recruited. High-resolution images were acquired of nasal and temporal ciliary muscles in the relaxed state and at stimulus vergence levels of -4 and -8 D. Objective accomm...
متن کاملHuman dynamic closed-loop accommodation augmented by sympathetic inhibition.
PURPOSE A ciliary alpha-adrenoceptor accommodative effect has been proposed, caused by a small population of alpha1-inhibitory receptors in excised human ciliary muscle. This study was intended to investigate the effect on the closed-loop dynamic accommodative process of modulating alpha1-adrenoceptor activity by topical instillation of the alpha1-adrenergic agonist, phenylephrine hydrochloride...
متن کاملEdinger-Westphal and pharmacologically stimulated accommodative refractive changes and lens and ciliary process movements in rhesus monkeys.
During accommodation, the refractive changes occur when the ciliary muscle contracts, releasing resting zonular tension and allowing the lens capsule to mold the lens into an accommodated form. This results in centripetal movement of the ciliary processes and lens edge. The goal of this study was to understand the relationship between accommodative refractive changes, ciliary process movements ...
متن کاملAccommodative ciliary body and lens function in rhesus monkeys, I: normal lens, zonule and ciliary process configuration in the iridectomized eye.
PURPOSE The underlying causes of presbyopia, and the functional relationship between the ciliary muscle and lens during aging are unclear. In the current study, these relationships were studied in rhesus monkeys, whose accommodative apparatus and age-related loss of accommodation are similar to those in humans. METHODS Centripetal ciliary body and lens equator movements were measured during a...
